New Music Friday
Some FANTASTIC new albums came out today
What a great day for new music. A lot of really fantastic albums came out today.
First: We have the new album from Waxahatchee. This was very anticipated by me, and lives up to the anticipation. Listen to it HERE.
If you aren’t familiar with Waxahatchee (Katie Crutchfield) lore; she got sober a few years ago. And her 2020 album Saint Cloud is known as her “sober record”. I think with this new album we do get a very self assured Katie who feels very comfortable in her skin. This is worlds apart from her first album (which I also loved - and the one that made me a fan); that album was 2012’s American Weekend. Which Katie recorded in a cabin during a week-long heartbroken alcohol-induced binge.
This album very much feels like a collaboration with MJ Lenderman; whom is on 3/4th’s of the album; either playing guitar, banjo, and/or doing backing vocals. If you aren’t familiar with MJ Lenderman; he’s in the band Wednesday. Whose 2023 album Rat Saw God was one of my favorites of the year. Wednesday is actually playing in LA at the Bellwether May 17th. You can also catch Waxahatchee in LA playing The Hollywood Palladium the night before on May 16th.
After 3 front to back listens of Tigers Blood; I already know this will be in my top albums of 2024. Matter of fact, as it stands; by top 3 albums of the year so far are:

Also while talking about new music; I’d like to highlight an album that came out about 4 weeks ago, that has really been sticking with me:
Erika is a Portugal-born Danish singer/artist. This album has really grown on me over the last few weeks. I think it’s a really interesting experimental pop album. It sort of feels like early 2000’s Timbaland pop-produced era (Missy Elliot, Tweet, Aaliyah; even Britney Spears) - but a warped version of it. I read one critic say it felt as if someone went into one of these 2000s Timbaland studio sessions and fucked with all of the knobs really quick; then released it.
