Friday:
- @sheets0fsound (who plays with both Carlos Nino & Friends and with The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra & tons others) constantly impresses me when I see him play. He just released his debut album on @leavingrecords and the record release show is at my fave venue for adventurous music @2220Arts. Highly recommend this one! Beautiful spiritual jazz done by an incredible ensemble 8pm $20 *
Saturday:
- In celebration of the great Nina Simone’s bday @jijisjazzclub is doing a screening of “What Happened, Miss Simone?” - a 2015 American biographical documentary with never-before-heard recordings, rare archival footage and her best known songs. 7pm - 1130pm at @slowjamzgallery
- The free saturday night comedy show @goodheroinshow; which takes place in the back of @storiesbooksandcafecontinues to be one of the best “alt” comedy “rooms” in the city. Stacked lineup Saturday w/ @ericfuckingandre, Jon Daly and more. 7pm FREE
- @oracle_egg in DTLA are low key booking some of the most interesting music in the city right now. an evening of improvisation with sound, poetry, and hand-built instruments. This will be experimental and mind expanding 8pm $15 *
- @itsthedare’s dance party Freakquences is back; this time at @zebulonla, and with Beck doing a DJ set. Free w/ RSVP 10pm *
Sunday:
- 2.22 immersive Sunset soundbath w/ tea & intention-setting; perched on top of Elysian Park w/ a gorgeous view of the city as the sun sets. $15. Link in my bio to join (only few spots left) 4:30pm - 6pm *
- @__pom____pom__ presents a sneak peek of abstract murmurs: experiments in black at @Dublab HQ. The program pairs a silent film with live cosmic jazz from @calycosa.music, plus DJ sets by @colloboh and @sadieibrahimmm. Doors at 4PM FREE
- @molly_lambert‘s author readings/variety show returns to @storiesbooksandcafe. Loving the rise of literary events in LA right now! 7pm FREE
- tone arm: a listening series Sunday 4–10PM · FREE monthly, phone-free listening gathering at Oracle Egg featuring full-album vinyl played as intended. This first session is curated by founder of Oracle Egg @harpistemology, with selections spanning medieval chant, folk harp, 50s doo-wop, and 20th-century spoken word. Come and go as you like.
- Presented by @villa.albertine and @friezeofficial at Chinatown’s @now_instant, this screening and conversation with Alice Scope, Alice Bucknell, and Lou Fauroux explores life inside “god-mode” tech systems. Three short works are followed by a focused dialogue on AI, planetary simulation, digital immortality, and queer resistance to total technological control 5pm FREE
- @opengateconcertseries has been doing really interesting, cutting edge jazz and jazz adjacent shows. They’re back at @scribble.community. Great lineup! 7:30pm $15 *
- Some HEAVY Hip Hop LEGENDS are performing at the @regenttheaterla!! @lordfinesseditc, Grand Puba, Sadat X, Diamond D, Nice & Smooth, etc. Pretty iconic! 8pm
